National Park of the Gargano
The National Park of the Gargano
is a blend of unique fauna and unique vegetation.
The landscape is breathtaking. The calcareous origins
of the Gargano territory allowed the formation of
Karsic phenomena such as deep valleys, precipices,
crags, caves and pinnacles. Some parts of the park
have been molded by the climate and by the terracing
of the land for cultivation. The cool winds from
the north, saturated with humidity, reach the Gargano
having a strongly influences to the vegetation.
A wide range of flora characterizes the Gargano,
in fact, here you can find more than 2000 species
of plants. Pini d'Aleppo pines, beech , holm, are
proof of ancient remains of the millenary forest
(foresta umbra). Man's intervention can be seen
all around the plateau covered by woods. It is characterized
by the careful pruning of the olive trees, by the
citrus trees and by almond trees. The presence of
animal species is conditioned by two characteristics:
the geographical-temporal isolation, and habitat
diversity The autochthonous species are: the garganic
roe deer , the wild cat, the martora and the bats.
There are also about 170 species of birds Amongst
the reptiles are: the cervone, the salamandra pezzata

National
Park of Gran Sasso and Monti della Lega
The Gran Sasso and Monti
della Lega National Park consists of three groups
of mountains: the chain of the Gran Sasso d'Italia,
the massif of the Laga and the Monti Gemelli .It
is characterized by the presence of the Corno Grande
that, with its 2912 metres of altitude, is the highest
summit in the Appennino. The Gran Sasso chain is
made up of limestones and dolomie. The calcareous
nature of the rocks makes it possible the presence
of karst phenomenons like dolines, caves and gorges.
The Laga mountains at the contrary, are made up
of sandstones and loam rocks and have peaks more
round, with numerous narrow and deep valleys. In
the park there are over 2000 species of plants.
This richness of vegetation is due to the elevated
altitudes and to the different geological substrate
of the massifs. In the territory of the park live
big erbivores like deers and roebucks but the most
interesting species of the park is the Abruzzo chamois.
